Pharmacological Effects Avodart
Dutasteride (brand name Avodart) - Dual inhibitor of 5a-reductase. Inhibits the activity of isoenzymes of 5a-reductase type 1 and 2, are responsible for the conversion of testosterone to 5a-dihydrotestosterone. DHT is the primary androgen responsible for hyperplasia of the glandular tissue of the prostate gland. The maximum decrease in plasma concentrations of DHT is dose dependent and observed within 1-2 weeks after starting treatment. Dutasteride (brand name Avodart) is subjected to intensive metabolism.
Indications for use Avodart
Treatment and prevention of benign prostatic hyperplasia (reduces its size, improves urination, and reduces the risk of acute urinary retention and the need for surgical treatment).
Contra Avodart
Hypersensitivity to Dutasteride (brand name Avodart) y, other inhibitors of 5a-reductase or to any ingredient of the drug. Dutasteride (brand name Avodart) is contraindicated in women and children.

Inhibitors of CYP3A4 can raise the concentration of Dutasteride (brand name Avodart) and in blood plasma. Inhibitors of CYP3A4 (verapamil and diltiazem) reduce the clearance of Dutasteride (brand name Avodart) as well. Reduced clearance of Dutasteride (brand name Avodart) and a subsequent increase in its concentration in the blood, while the application of inhibitors of CYP3A4, is not clinically significant (no need for lower doses).
